Kirribilli sunrise, Sydney

distanbach-Kirribilli sunrise-3

The other morning I was up before dawn again and thought I might try and get lucky with some sunrise photo’s. For a change of scenery, rather than head down to the beach, I figured I’d see what I might get at the exclusive harbourside suburb of Kirribilli.

For those that don’t know, Kirribilli House is located here and is the official residence of the Prime Minister. Truth be told, only a couple PM’s have ever used it as a full time residence and so it has mostly just played host to visiting dignitaries and functions. In the image above, you can see the lawns of the residence flowing down to the water on the far shore. I’ve never visited Kirribilli House during the occasional open day but the views would be stunning – an uninterrupted vista that would include the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, CDB and lower north shore. For those of us who don’t have the millions needed to live around here, its okay – there is plenty of space to just stop and take in the view.

Sydney’s such a gorgeous city, isn’t it? Getting out and about with the camera reminds me of how lucky we are sometimes. And, how easily we can take for granted that which surrounds us.

That’s one of the aspects I like most of sunrise photography – the peace and quiet. It’s refreshing to the soul.
