Sunrise to sunset: 2015 New years day, Sydney, Australia

If you saw my previous post about Sydney’s New Years Eve fireworks, you’d know I was hoping for a little more than an hour’s sleep before having to get up for sunrise photo’s. In the end, all I could manage was to lay on the bed for 34 minutes and count down the minutes before I had to head off again.

Last year, I visited Sydney’s Balmoral beach for the first sunrise of the new year. This time, I choose to revisit my old favourite, Bronte beach. After grabbing these images, I dove into the water to have my first swim of 2015 and followed up with a visit to my favourite coffee shop for a morning charge of caffeine. It’s always a glorious way to herald in the new year.

After returning home, I dumped these images into the computer, did a quick edit and decided to have a lay down at around 11am. I didn’t wake again until 1.30pm! Luckily, I had arranged to meet up with an old school friend and his family who have been visiting from the U.S. in the afternoon. It would of been a terrible shame to have slept away any more of the day.

This time, we all headed off to Watson’s Bay to have an afternoon swim at Camp Cove. Later, we couldn’t help but buy some seafood from Doyles, sit down in the park overlooking Sydney’s beautiful harbour and wast the sun set over the city. I have to say, it was a lovely way to bookend the first day the new year.
