Cycling side trip to the town of Damme, Belgium

Bruges is a small and compact town, easily traversed by foot. Since I had 4 day’s here prior to my conference, I decided to spend my third morning cycling out to the village of Damme. Hiring a bike for half a day, I set off to the north east and peddled the 6 kilometres to this quaint little former port to check it out. I have to say there’s not exactly a lot to see in Damme but the bike ride itself was worth the side trip. You ride along Damme Canal, past farmlands and the Schelle windmill. All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend the morning. I thought about keeping the bike longer on my return to Bruges but I confess my bum just wasn’t up to the cobble stone streets. Ouch!
