Vivid Festival: Sydney Opera House Sails

distanbach-Sydney Opera House-Vivid-1

A little over a week ago, this years Vivid Sydney Festival kicked off in earnest. If you’re not familiar with the event, Vivid is a celebration of Light, Music and Idea’s and has become an annual phenomenon that attracts 800,000+ visitors to the city. The centrepiece of the festival would have to be the light projections that transform many of Sydney’s landmark buildings into wonderful and surreal canvasses of colour and movement. According to the Vivid website, this years Sydney Opera House light show was created by ’59 Productions’ and takes viewers on a journey through time, art, architecture and human achievement. The shots in this post don’t really capture the storyline as its a flowing animation that runs for some 12 minutes. That aside, I hope you get a sense of some of the spectacle that we’re currently being treated to down at the harbour. Fingers crossed, I hope to get back there to capture some of the many other displays over the next week.

It’s really quite impressive to see. They play an audio track that accompanies this show from locations around Circular Quay which adds to the effect too. Thanks for visiting and posting; I appreciate the interest.

Spot on. Its great to see whole the vista and all the city high rise lit up too. Its a shame that it doesn’t work so well in a static photo. Thanks for commenting; appreciated.

Hehe. When it first started it was pretty amazing. We’re all so accustomed to seeing the white sails and then to see them lit up via these projectors was terrific. It takes on such a different beauty. Very clever.

I’m sure you’ll find a video of this show on YouTube or via other bloggers. I went back to Martin Place (a little further into the CBD) and took some more photo’s and video of one of the installations there. Its quite an interesting building as its mushroom shaped so the animations was of trees growing up and into a canopy. Its not nearly as speculator as the Opera House but it was interesting nonetheless. Will post it over the next couple of days.
