Holiday Road: Moody sunset over Banff

Banff-Lake Minnewanka scenic drive sunset-3Following from the previous post, the photo’s in this set were taken as we drove back into town from Lake Minnewanke. I took these from a little viewing area beside the road along the Lake Minnewanka Scenic Drive just as the sun was setting. I remember juggling lenses and running back and forth between two spots that were around 5 meters apart as the clouds began to turn gold. Funny in hindsight…

I really liked how these landscape images turned out. They make me smile.

  3. Great compositions and excellent lighting. I particularly like the portrait shot with the sky turning the river gold.

Cheers, Mark. It truly was a beautiful sight. I remember wishing at the time that I had full frame camera (or at least at changed my lens) for that angle. The light was changing so rapidly.

Really beautiful – the top one belongs as a print on the wall.
Did you go up the cable car to the peak (I forget its name)? My wife isn’t keen on heights, but it was worth it for the view.

Too kind, Mike. Yep, we did go up the cable car – Sulphur Mountain, from memory. It was a stonking view; albeit it bitterly cold went we visited. I agree though, totally worth it.

Thank you again, James. Yes; that was my favourite too. I got lucky with the heavy sky’s. It reminded me a bit of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind :-).
