The Vivid Light festival wrapped up earlier this week and on the final night I thought I’d check out the show down at Darling Harbour.
Darling Harbour bounds the western side of Sydney’s CBD and has increasingly become a restaurant and tourist precinct in the last few years. Owing to its sheltered bay, it hosted a rather impressive water light show. Timed to various musical pieces, the illuminated water fountains danced in rhythm to the beats and accompanying laser show. The point of difference for this final show was the incredible blanket of fog that had enveloped Sydney a few hours earlier. It had been so foggy during my short drive in that visibility was down to about 8 meters at times. Fortunately, it wasn’t quite that bad harbour side and we were all still able to see the final midnight spectacle.
The last shot in this set (B&W) was taken in Ultimo on my return home. You can get a bit of a sense of the ambience created by the fog that night.

That last shot is really nice. The fog really gave it a dramatic haunted feeling. I really like the symmetrical composition too.

We don’t get fog that often so it’s was a treat that night. I don’t get much practice shooting in those conditions but I certainly see why it works so well in B&W.
